Meet Your Skipper – Roy
Roy has been fishing New Zealand waters for over 20 years, arriving in 2003 and building an intimate knowledge of the Hauraki Gulf ever since. He specializes in lure fishing – topwater, popping, jigging, and everything in between, and has spent years refining his approach alongside some of the leading lure manufacturers in the game.
Kingfish are his obsession. There’s nothing quite like watching an angler’s face the moment a big king smashes a stickbait on the surface, and Roy takes a genuinely hands-on approach, whether you’re picking up a jig rod for the first time or looking to sharpen technique you already have, he’ll have you fishing more effectively by the end of the trip.
He’s also a firm believer in fishing responsibly – practicing catch-and-release where it counts, so the Hauraki Gulf stays as good for the next trip as it was for this one.
