Hauraki Gulf Action: Workups, Glassy Days, and Kiwi Grit
The last few weeks on the Gulf have been nothing short of electric. From “dead flat” glassy mornings to challenging the Hauraki chop, our crews have been proving why Auckland fishing in March is world-class.
Whether you are an experienced or a total beginner, the energy on the water right now is something you have to experience for yourself.
The Hauraki Gulf Workups are Firing
If you have been waiting for the Hauraki Gulf workups to kick into gear, the time is now. We have seen the action intensify recently as massive bait schools attract hungry predators.
Consequently, there are some trophy snapper sitting right underneath the birds. These fish are feeding hard and providing a cracking “mixed bag” for our guests on every trip.
Shallow Water Kingfish: Heart-Pumping Action
Currently, the Kingfish are holding close to the coast. They are chasing anchovy schools into the shallows, which makes for incredible sight-fishing.
There is truly nothing that beats that first screaming run when a Kingy hits in shallow water. It is heart-pumping action at its best! We have had a blast watching both experts and beginners get their arms properly stretched and worked out by these hard-fighting localreef thugs.
Beginner’s Luck vs. Kiwi Grit
We recently hosted a group of total beginners on a day when the weather was perfect. With not a breath of wind and “glassy” conditions from start to finish, they brought plenty of “beginner’s luck” and smashed their Personal bests!
On the flip side, David and his crew joined us on a day when the Hauraki Gulf was a bit more challenging. However, they braved the elements with true Kiwi grit. Their energy was rewarded with a solid haul of snapper. This proves that even when it’s not “dead flat,” the fishing is too good to miss.
Book Your Fish ‘n Dips Adventure
With the workups firing and the Kingfish in close, the next few weeks are looking prime. Massive shoutout to our crew for delivering the authentic Fish ‘n Dips experience every time we leave Westhaven Marina.
